24 hours in the New Forest at Burley Manor

· Travel

Charlotte and I recently had the absolute pleasure of escaping the rain and cold that invades London in November to spend a night at Burley Manor in the New Forest.

The manor is set on a beautiful piece of land, where from the lounge, restaurant and garden rooms you can see the deer in surrounding fields. The manor itself is so warm and welcoming, we were very happy sat by the fire drinking coffee and wine throughout the day.

We started our first day with a coffee in the lounge, then we were shown to our gorgeous garden room. We went for a lovely walk around the grounds and then further into the town where we found a lovely local pub and a few shops. Upon deciding to explore a bit further, we were delighted to meet some horses who were quite happily walking around the roads (not something you see everyday, especially not in London!). They were very friendly, which was a lovely surprise.

We then decided to go to a nearby hotel also owned by Burley Manor to use their indoor pool and sauna facilities (free of charge I might add). Since the outdoor pool at the Manor was closed for winter, this was our only option for a dip. We’re both looking forward to coming back over the summer to use the gorgeous outdoor pool (which we’d have been able to reach straight from the backdoor of our room!).

Next came the most fantastic three course meal. The dinner menu at the restaurant suited both Char and I down to the ground- simple, really well prepared food, lots of different vegetables, meats and fish dishes to choose from. For any vegans reading this, you’d have been very happy ordering from the same menu as well.

On day two we started with a buffet and a la carte breakfast. We both has full vegetarian breakfasts and they were delicious. We also couldn’t quite resist ordering the blueberry and pistachio vegan pancakes which we shared as desert (yes, lots of eating!). We then had treatments booked at the spa. We both opted for “work it out” massages as we’re partial to a good sports massage, but they have all kinds of glorious sounding treatments from facials to body scrubs and manicure/pedicures.

We had planned to go out for a bike ride, but sadly the weather didn’t quite hold. We’ll have to go back to see Forest Leisure Cycling to hire bikes when the sun comes out again.

If you’re looking for a relaxing break, just one and a half hours on a direct train away from London, I’d highly recommend taking a look at Burley Manor. We had such a lovely time and hope to be back soon!
